Sharon Kerubo Gekonge

Nairobi, Kenya

Born in 2000 in Nairobi, the daughter of a nurse and a civil servant, from the age of eight Sharon travelled extensively around the world due to her father’s work.

This experience opened her eyes to different and unconventional approaches to life. “My art journey started by chance; I won a raffle ticket to do an art subject in secondary school. Although my mother believes that I had an affinity with art from an early age, I hadn’t consciously recognised it in myself at the time.”

In 2021, Sharon graduated with an Interior Design degree from the University of Nairobi.  While at university, she took portrait commissions and, being inspired by charcoal drawing, fine-tuned her skills in this medium to the point of hyperrealism. During the pandemic period of isolation, looking inwards and ‘uncovering her truths’, she began exploring climate and wildlife conservation in her art.

“I’m inspired by living my essence. Vincent Van Gogh embodied this philosophy very well and has been a great influence in my life.I don’t desire much of this material world."
