In October 2012, MASK Director Alla Tkachuk and MASK student Joe Gathua were invited to present MASK's work at the UNESCO IIEP Policy Forum, titled ‘Engaging Youth in Planning Education for Social Transformation,’ held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
Addressing delegates from over 200 countries, this platform provided MASK with an opportunity to connect with key policymakers, including the Cabinet Secretary of Kenya’s Ministry of Youth Affairs, fostering valuable relationships to advance MASK's mission.
Alla Tkachuk presented the report ‘MASK: Engaging Young People for Development through Creativity Education,’ highlighting the transformative role of creativity in youth development.
She also curated and installed a large exhibition of artworks created by MASK beneficiaries in the main hall of UNESCO Headquarters, showcasing the power of creativity to drive meaningful change.
Joe Gathua spoke passionately about the importance of creativity for young people. The Forum’s organizers remarked, 'Joe put an important issue on the agenda regarding the role of creativity and art in education. It was inspiring to see how he engaged with policymakers and academics to effectively convey his message.'
