Lee Momanyi

Nairobi, Kenya

In 2022, MASK invited young architects to design a School of the Future, a dynamic learning space that would inspire creativity in young minds. Lee Momanyi's submission stood out and deeply impressed the judges.

A graduate of Kenyatta University’s Department of Architecture and Interior Design, Lee is passionate about creating environments that blend creativity, innovation, responsibility, and ethics. This thoughtful approach has made him a notable figure in the MASK Awards community.

Lee’s School of the Future features a volumetric shape inspired by the spiral of a snail’s shell, using natural and sustainable materials like bamboo infill panels combined with modern elements. The design enhances indoor air quality, maximises natural light, and integrates green features. It seamlessly merges indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering a sense of community and fulfillment. The shell’s logarithmic spiral allows for the progressive expansion of spaces, creating distinct functional areas throughout the building. Vibrant openings—echoing MASK’s logo—add a unique touch.

Currently freelancing, Lee offers bespoke designs for both residential and commercial projects. Looking ahead, he aims to collaborate with artists in the architectural process to transform urban spaces, create more engaging environments, and uplift the human spirit.
